Want to increase your motivation to exercise? It is much easier to follow an exercise routine if you have a workout partner enthusiastic. The perfect person for this is not really a person – it’s your dog! Dogs make great exercise because friends are always ready to go. Motivate the days you do not want to get off your ass – it would be hard to resist a happy face and a tail that moves, right?
So, are you ready to get fit with your dog (and bond, at the same time)? Here are four exercises that will benefit both of us!
Jogging
Your dog will never say no to a jogging session! The first time you start to run with your canine friend, the train stays on the right side as you can collapse if it crosses in front of you. Start slowly and keep an eye out for any signs of overheating such as severe fatigue or excessive panting. Bring plenty of water and take breaks when needed. With increasing time and distance gradually, observe your dog carefully for signs of overtraining.
Hiking
You can burn up 800 calories in a fast-paced, two hour walk. The best time to hike with your dog is in the morning. Go out just after sunrise and walk for a couple of hours. Be sure to carry enough water for you and your pet. If you live in a warm climate, you want to start earlier to avoid the risk of overheating your dog. Do not just stick to a walking trail, try a different one each time you rise to make it more interesting.
Frisbee
This fun exercise can help burn 200 calories per hour. Your dog will probably burn more since he is the one who does most of the persecution and execution, but both feel better after a few rounds of Frisbee. A little fresh air always helps, too!
Route
Once again, walking around a different area each day to avoid boredom. Walking along hiking trails, beach and close to several neighborhoods. You can also take your dog to the lake where you can walk and swim. Participate in fundraisers walk the dog, too – they offer a great opportunity to get fit and help a good cause at the same time.
